01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One diner’s first surprise on ordering the sashimi platter was just how generous it was: thick-cut fish alongside a variety of sashimi diced into cubes. They enjoyed wrapping the fish in nori, making it a good way to begin an evening focused on the flavours of different fish. MADUME Kyobashi lists fish sourced from partner fishing lodges and ports, as well as unusual varieties. Its information also describes an event featuring the day’s live fish, served as sushi or sashimi in the evening. Some diners have commented on the distinctive flavour of the individual fish.

Alongside plates of fish, you can order izakaya-style snacks such as beef tendon simmered in miso or beef cheek with sesame ponzu. One diner described the tendon dish as large pieces of meat in a rich miso sauce, while they found the beef cheek refreshingly light. Another visitor was struck by the size of the grilled yellowtail collar. It’s an option when you want to keep fish at the centre of the meal but add a substantial grilled dish.

Lunch menus include a set meal of fresh fish sashimi with sesame sauce, as well as a set combining grilled hokke with salt and mackerel grilled with spring onion and miso. For a heartier fish meal, there is also a thick-cut fried horse mackerel set meal, listed as available in limited quantities each day. Rice bowls include a daily seafood bowl featuring seasonal fish, and a tuna-focused bowl topped with bluefin tuna, marinated bigeye tuna and minced tuna. Diners who have chosen fish dishes at lunch have praised their freshness and flavour, though queues can form around midday.

In the evening, the restaurant can suit groups sharing sashimi and snacks, and reservations are accepted. Drinks include tea shochu highballs made with genmaicha, Yame green tea, hojicha or jasmine tea, along with Don-yasu, whose price changes according to how many drinks you order, starting with your second. Whether you’re in the mood to share a range of sashimi and snacks or have fish in a set meal or rice bowl at lunchtime, there are several ways to enjoy the menu.
